Autumn Views of Cove Mountain from Buddy Boy Vineyard

Buddy Boy Winery & Vineyard just posted some beautiful views of Cove Mountain to their facebook page.  Buddy Boy Winery is located just outside Duncannon Borough off Rt 11/15.

The Winery's scenic setting at the base of Cove Mountain, above which the Appalachian Trail passes, contributes to its appeal as  a unique part of the Susquehanna Heartland Wine Trail.  Click on the photo to view the rest of the album!

Hawk Rock vista featured on PennLive.com's Pop Quiz!

Source: PennLive.com
Those of you cruising the Patriot News' web site yesterday may have noticed a "Pop Quiz! Where in Central PA?" link with a photo of.... Hawk Rock!   See article here.  The scenic Duncannon vista along the Appalachian Trail in Perry County was prominently featured and many guessed correctly in the comments.

You can bet many mid-staters are now thinking about their next trip up to Duncannon for a hike!  Fall foliage just around the corner.

Exciting news for Ibberson Conservation Area on Peters Mountain

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced late last week that the Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area located on the north slope of Peters Mountain in Halifax Township recently added another 433 woodland acres, more than doubling in size.

Ibberson Conservation Area is directly adjacent to the Appalachian Trail corridor roughly 10 miles from Duncannon Trail-north and will provide further opportunities for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to explore down the Ridge via publicly accessible trails.  This land donation from this former DCNR Forester also serves to preserve the Appalachian Trail experience in greater Duncannon for future generations as another large swath of land on Peters Mountain is permanently protected from incompatible development.

“Mr. Ibberson was fondly known for his forest conservation and philanthropy, and we are thrilled to receive this land as a gift to the citizens of Pennsylvania ‘to be held in the public trust, with minimal development,’ as was his desire,” DCNR Secretary Richard Allan said. From the Patriot News.

Hiking up Peter's Mountain

The views from Peters Mountain in the winter are spectacular!  Get a new view of Duncannon and the Clarks Ferry Bridge from above by taking a hike up Peters Mountain.  It's 1.5 miles from the Trailhead at the Park & Ride area off PA-322 up to the top of the ridge, a few miles further is the Clarks Ferry Shelter and if you're feeling real ambitions you can do the whole 6.3 mile segment from PA-322 to PA-225!  Check out photos below.
