Exciting news for Ibberson Conservation Area on Peters Mountain

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced late last week that the Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area located on the north slope of Peters Mountain in Halifax Township recently added another 433 woodland acres, more than doubling in size.

Ibberson Conservation Area is directly adjacent to the Appalachian Trail corridor roughly 10 miles from Duncannon Trail-north and will provide further opportunities for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to explore down the Ridge via publicly accessible trails.  This land donation from this former DCNR Forester also serves to preserve the Appalachian Trail experience in greater Duncannon for future generations as another large swath of land on Peters Mountain is permanently protected from incompatible development.

“Mr. Ibberson was fondly known for his forest conservation and philanthropy, and we are thrilled to receive this land as a gift to the citizens of Pennsylvania ‘to be held in the public trust, with minimal development,’ as was his desire,” DCNR Secretary Richard Allan said. From the Patriot News.
